Ready to begin?
Taking the first step is an act of courage.
Whether you've tried therapy before or this is brand new, we want to make the process simple, transparent, and grounded.
The following information guides you through the process, answers common questions about cost and insurance, and prepares you for your first session.

The most important factor in successful therapy is the relationship between you and your therapist. This is why I offer an optional free, no-obligation consultation.
What to expect in the free 20-minute consultation:
A gentle introduction: We'll briefly discuss what brings you to therapy and what what you hope to achieve.
Questions welcome: This is your chance to ask me anything about my approaches, experience, session structure, or general logistics.
The goal: To determine if we feel like a good 'fit.' If we're not, I am happy to offer referrals to other trusted colleagues.

Unlike services provided by psychiatrists or physicians, psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) in private practice is generally not covered by OHIP; however your private or workplace health benefits may cover a portion of the cost.
To determine your coverage for sessions with Roseroot Psychotherapy, check with your health insurance plan administrator and determine your coverage for services with a "Registered Psychotherapist" (RP). You can confirm details of maximum per-session and annual coverage amounts, and determine if a referral is needed from a medical doctor.
Note: Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) often short term free and confidential sessions. Check if your workplace plan includes an EAP, as this is a good, no-cost way to get started.

Once we agree to work together, or if you want to move directly to booking a first session, here is what you can do to feel prepared and grounded for your first session:
Beforehand:
Intake Forms: You'll be sent a form to complete and sign electronically that covers informed consent and issues of privacy and confidentiality. Feel free to ask any questions before or at the beginning of the first session.
Set Your Intention: You don't need a detailed script, but it can be helpful to think about:
What is a primary issue you want to focus on right now? What are other issues that are in the background?
What would life look like if therapy was successful? (e.g., "I'd feel less anxious," or "I would communicate better with my partner.")
Have You Had Therapy Before? If you have sought therapy in the past I would like to hear what worked best for you, and if there were any particular challenges in the therapy space.
During the first session:
Go at Your Own Pace: There is no pressure to share everything at once. We’ll spend time collaboratively setting directions and building trust, going at your pace.
It's Normal to Feel Nervous: Seeking support is brave. If you feel awkward or anxious, you can share that! It’s all part of the process.
Confidentiality: We will review the limits of confidentiality, ensuring you understand the private and secure nature of our work together.
